KOTC seals VLCC deal

KOTC of Kuwait has clinched its VLCC order at Daewoo in Korea, but with a slight twist.

The owner was expected to contract five big tankers at the yard after securing state backing for the deal earlier this month.

But Daewoo said on Tuesday it had booked four 317,000-dwt VLCCs and a 110,000-dwt aframax.

The combined order is worth about $560m, with delivery by October 2014.

Daewoo CEO Nam Sang-Tae: "KOTC and Daewoo have been building a long-term cooperative partnership. Starting from 2012's first contract, we will actively work for winning other overseas new orders."

KOTC already has eight VLCCs.
